2014 Honda CB650F & CBR650F First Look

Honda debuted two brand new middleweight bikes during the 2013 EICMA show, the 2014 CB650F and CBR650F. For now both models are designated for the European markets.

The new models share a liquid-cooled DOHC, 16-valve Inline-Four engine. Honda claims 85.8 horsepower at 11,000 rpm and 46.4 lb-ft of torque at 8000 rpm. The CB650 models utilize Honda’s PGM-FI fuel injection system and power is transferred to the rear via a wet, multi-plate clutch and six-speed gearbox.

The engine is wrapped in a steel diamond twin-spar frame mated to an aluminum swingarm. Rigidity has been optimized by making the chassis stiffer near the headstock and more “flexible” in the spar sections for better handling.
Suspension is handled by a 41mm telescopic fork out front while a rear single-tube monoshock absorbs bumps out back. The rear shock also allows for seven-stages of spring preload adjustment.
Dual-piston calipers grip dual 320mm discs out front and a single piston caliper bites a 240mm disc out back on both mounts. The two rides also feature two-channel ABS as well.

The CB650F offers a more upright riding position while the CBR650F “is on the relaxed side of sporty,” according to Honda PR. Seat height for both mounts rings in at 31.8 inches.

Where available, the CB650F will come in five color options: Pearl Metalloid White (Tricolor), Pearl Himalayas White, Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic, Sword Silver Metallic and Pearl Queen Bee Yellow. The CBR650F will be either Pearl Metalloid White (Tricolor), Pearl Himalayas White, Graphite Black or Sword Silver Metallic. MSRP isn’t included in press material.
